Cinematographer

Numerous winner of the "Best Cinematography" award at various international film festivals. Was born in the USSR in 1962 into a family of engineers. The passion for cinema began at the age of 11, with classes at the Yerevan city art school, after which it continued at the Cinematography department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinema (VGIK, Moscow), from which he graduated as a valedictorian student in 1984. Being a student of Vladimir Monakhov’s class, he trained with the famous cinematographers Leonid Kalashnikov, Albert Yavuryan, Levon Atoyants.

During the entire period of his professional activity as a director of photography he shot 51 feature films, 11 documentaries, more than 500 advertisements and music videos, more than 200 TV shows, as well as one full-length animated film.

Has won the “Best Cinematography” award 20 times at various international film festivals. Films in which Kirakosyan was a DoP were awarded the “Best Film” 39 times at various international festivals.

Pedagogical activities include work in the universities of Kadir Has, Bilgi, Bahcesehir in Istanbul, where in the period 2006-2018 he taught the course of Cinmatography Skills. As well over the years, he made master classes at the universities of Marmara (Istanbul), Bilkent (Ankara), at the National Film School named after A. Atif Yilmaz (Istanbul), art club 6.45 (Eskisehir), at international film festivals in Bursa and Malatya.

He was a member of the jury at the 44-th Moscow (2022), “Golden Apricot” in Yerevan (2020), in Malatya (2017), “Golden Orange” in Antalya (2014), “Golden Cocoon” in Adana (2008) international film festivals. Kirakosyan is a member of the Russian Union of Filmmakers since 1991. Member of the Guild of Cinematographers of Russia and Turkey. IMAGO member from Russia and Turkey.
